FA Hayek
Friedrich August von Hayek was a Nobel Prize-winning economist, philosopher, and polymath, best known for his defence of free markets, spontaneous order, and the rule of law against central planning. Less appreciated is his bold vision for international order, believing that classical liberalism’s unfinished work required an “interstate federation” of free countries, thus eliminating barriers to trade, movement, and capital; establishing common rules of law (not to be confused with political dictates dressed in the garb of law); and creating limited supranational authority to secure peace, prevent conflict, and most importantly, safeguard liberty.
